Money Line Bet - Mobile Sports Betting

This type of sports bet is very popular with Americans and for this reason; it is often called "American Odds". This is a sports bet that does not make use of a point spread (see Straight or Straight-up Point Spread Bet below), but instead uses the odds on the straight up conclusion of the sporting event. For this reason, this type of bet is a very well liked. You do not need to select an amount (score or points) your team will win by; you merely have to pick the winner.

Money Line Bets expressed in either negative (-150) or positive odds (+150). The team with the negative number is the favored team. This is the team that is the favorite, or simply the one that has better odds of winning the sporting event. The other team will have a positive number and is considered to be the underdog (long shot at winning) of the occasion.

When the number shown is positive, the probabilities (odds) are stating the amount of cash you will win on a sports bet of $100. So, if the odds were +150 and you placed a $100 bet, you would win $150 for it. This amount does not include your actual bet, which means the total amount you would win would be your original bet ($100) plus the $150 for a total amount of $250.

The negative number is the amount you would have to bet to win $100. If the odds are -150, you would have to make a bet of $150 to win $100, and again; you actually get paid the amount you bet plus the amount won. In this example if you bet $150, you would win that amount plus $100 for a total of $250. Since the team is favored to win, you must put up more money prior to the start of the competition to win less. We have used the amount of $100 in our examples, but Money Line Bets can be made for any amount of money.

Example of a Money Line Bet in Football: 
  1. Pittsburgh Steelers -170
  2. Dallas Cowboys +150

In this example Pittsburgh is favored to win over Dallas. If you want to bet on Pittsburgh (favorite), you will have to bet $170 to win $100 for a total payout of $270, if they win. Now, if you want to bet on Dallas (underdog), you will win $150 for every $100 that you bet for a total of $250, if they win.
