Total or Over/Under Bet : Mobile Sports Betting
This is a sports bet on the total (combined) score of the competition. You must add both teams' final scores together and bet on whether it will be more (over) or less (under) than this amount. There is one amount (the total) that is considered the "posted line" or "line posted", which is the number set by the mobile sports betting site. This type of mobile sports bet will normally pay $100 for every bet of $110, or $10 for every $11 bet.
If the total is 33 and you think the final total score will be more than this amount, you would bet the over. If you feel the combined score will be less than 33, you would bet the under. If the final is equal to 33, you do not win or lose. This is considered a "push", which is a tie and the original bet will be returned.
Mobile Sports Betting Tip: It is very common for mobile sports books to have the total over/under bets set in numbers that are not even, but in amounts of a half point seen like this: 33 ½. This will prevent any ties or pushes from ever occurring, since the final score could not possibly be this amount.
Example of a Total or Over/Under Bet in Football (combined with the money line and straight bet, as it will most often be shown):
- Pittsburgh -14 -170
- Dallas +14 +150 33 ½ (Total Over/Under)
In this example the total final score is set at 33 ½ points. If you think the total score will be greater than this amount, you would bet the "over". If you think the total score will be less than this figure, you would bet the "under". Once the competition has finished, the total score is added up and the winners are paid. As previously stated, this type of mobile sports bet pays $100 (or $10) for every $110 (or $11) bet. In this example, you would win a total of $210 (your original bet of $110 + $100 for a total payout of $210) or $21 (your original bet of $11 + $10 for a total payout of $21).
Note: Since the only difference among the various sports you can place this type of bet on is the team name and total, all of the over/under bets would be figured as explained above. Simply use the total score for the sport you are going to bet on. The amount of the sports bet and payout remains the same ($100 payout for each bet of $110).
Note: Total bets are a common bet in football, hockey, basketball, and baseball.
